Tanks of Fiberglass reinforced plastic are used by various industries, including those manufacturing harsh chemicals and those storing liquids that must be kept contamination free.
Filament Wound tanks withstand a significant amount of circumferential stress and are also designed to withstand stresses imposed by wind and seismic loads with the addition of external stiffening ribs in the hoop direction - collapsing stress, caused by vacuums, are resisted.
Flat bottom vertical tanks from 2 feet to 16 feet are standard. Larger tanks manufactured in sections and field erected are designed with the same 10:1 safety factor as our shop fabricated tanks. Tanks can be manufactured with a sloped bottom, internal false bottom, cone or dished bottom.
Special requirements for supporting external loads of a top or side mounted mixer can be designed.
Tank supports for other than flat bottom tanks can be FRP or steel legs, FRP skirt, or gusseted steel supports on a steel ring mounted on the shell with a FRP thrust ring above.
The advantages of Bittner’s FRP tanks are many:
They are corrosion resistant both inside and out. Industrial fumes and weather conditions do not harm them.

FRP Tanks Are Tough And Cost Effective!
Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic Tanks (FRP)

Standard and Custom Tank Styles Available
They are light in weight, and can be modified much easier than metal tanks.
Nozzles, manways, and baffles can be added at any time.
Modest initial cost and maintenance- free.
The exterior can be produced translucent or painted. Pigment can be added to the resin during the manufacturing process or catalyzed polyurethane coating applied after fabrication if color is desired.
Bittner Tanks are not mass-produced. They are built to your specific needs.
Bittner manufactures a wide variety of tank sizes, shapes, and types for above ground installations, either Filament Wound or Contact Molded.
Whatever shape you need: cylindrical or rectangular, horizontal or vertical - Bittner can provide it! Sizes generally run from 2 feet to 16 feet in diameter. But other diameters can be produced to your specifications. Height, or length, is dependent upon your needs. Bittner has produced tanks up to 81 feet in height.
Bittner will also supply a variety of accessories, to name a few:
Construction Methods
Unique to FRP Tanks
Structural Layer: The structural layer of tanks is a laminate, comprised of an appropriate chemical-resistant resin reinforced with continuous strand fiberglass filament wound in a geometric pattern that is precisely designed to meet stress requirements.

Exterior Surface: For added resistance to weathering and chemical exposure, the surface will be protected with a gel coat consisting of a suitable chemical resistant resin containing ultra-violet absorbers. Color may be added at the customer’s option.
Superior resistance can be incorporated in the exterior surface by the addition of one layer of C type glass surfacing veil impregnated with corrosion-resistant resin.
Bittner tanks are produced by uniform machine-applied filament winding which gives a higher quality controlled resin content. This produced a tank that is extremely strong, economical to purchase, and will give years of service.
Note: All wall thicknesses are calculated for each set of circumstances.
Physical Properties of Contact Molded or Filament Wound Laminates for Tanks
Surface Hardness
The surface will have a Barcol hardness of at least 90 percent of the specified hardness for the type of resin used
Note: Where synthetic surface veil is used the Barcol Hardness will be reduced.
